Well let me introduce myself. I am nothing other than a weekend warrior who likes to run at least three days a week for time and distance. I have run a half marathon, numerous 5K and 10ks but never a marathon. I started running about 3 years ago when I got my first desk job. I run speedwork, tempo runs, and long distance training runs. I love to run because it makes my body remind my mind how strong I am, and reminds my mind that not everything is about work and stress. It is my release.
With that being said, this blog will be a chronicle of my running as I train for the following goals for 2007:
1. Run a half marathon in less than 2 hours.
2. Join a running group
3. Run a sub 6 minute mile
4. Run at least 3 days a week (increase to 4 if possible) with a minimum of 15 miles a week.
So in a good start to my goals last night I went for a 5 mile run, and considering that weekends are usually my long runs, it went quite well and helped meet my mileage goals.
I ran out along the beach for 2.5 miles enjoying the rather warm night air and the beautiful sight of the Golden Gate bridge all light up. There were so many people out trying to meet their new years resolutions. I wish them all the best, but I did manage to pass a number who were running slower than me. Which is good considering I thought I was the slowest runner in my neighborhood. I also felt that I was moving faster than my 9 min mile pace, which unfortunately has become more common after I took a month off of running due to timing with my wedding.
Just to be sure I typed my run into coolrunning.com running log this morning, after checking the mileage here. I ran an 8:30 mile pace and was quite proud of myself. So my yearly and weekly totals are just over 5 miles and pace is 8:30. So far so good. I wish myself luck this new year.
